The seminar was organized to give awareness on Leprosy on World Leprosy day in Aziz Fatimah Medical & Dental College on 4th February 2016. It was honored that Prof Dr. Asghar Butt participated in seminar as chief guest. The program started with the recitation of Holy Quran by Zunaira (student of 2nd Year) and recitation of naat by Wasiq Umer (student of 2nd Year). The welcome address was by Principal, Prof Dr. Riaz Hussain Dab. In his address he highlighted the academic and administrative achievement of the chief guest, his contributions for the Medical Education in Punjab Medical College. He also highlighted the very prominent role of chief guest Prof Dr. Asghar Butt (MBBS, FCPS, HOD Pediatrics in Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad and regional director College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, Karachi) in College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan. He welcomed all the faculty members, students and speakers of the seminar. He stressed to continue such academic activities and expressed his vision for under graduate and post graduate training in Aziz Fatimah Medical & Dental College.

The first speaker was Prof. Dr. Habib Subhani HOD of Medicine. He nicely elaborated the history of Leprosy along with bad social impact on the lives of patients suffering from Leprosy. He also appreciated the efforts of Dr. Armauer Hansen in diagnosing the disease on scientific basis.

The second speaker was Asst. Prof. Dr. Saeed Ahmad HOD Dermatology. He nicely classified the different types of Leprosy along with the clinical signs, symptoms, investigations and treatment modalities specially he stressed on multiple drug therapy for treatment and to avoid resistance from one drug.

The third speaker was Asst. Prof. Dr. Farkhanda Jabeen. She presented the prevalence of Leprosy in Pakistan. She highlighted the services of Dr. Ruth Pfau in controlling, treating, preventing and rehabilitation of patients suffering from Leprosy. She mentioned the efforts of community, NGO’s and the role and duties of social welfares in treating the Leprosy. She told that the disease is not active in most of the areas of Pakistan but we should be vigilant to prevent relapse of this disease.

At the end of presentations the speakers answered the questions of participants. The certificates were given to the speakers and organizers. Principal of AFMDC presented the college souvenirs to the chief guest.

The chief guest in his speech appreciated the academic and administrative standards of Aziz Fatimah Medical & Dental College. He highlighted that keeping in view the academic and administrative skills of Principal in near future Aziz Fatimah Medical & Dental College will be one of the best private medical college in the country. He extended all his support and help to launch the post graduate training program in Aziz Fatimah Medical & Dental College and Aziz Fatimah Hospital. He said that College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP) will always support and guide for essential requirements for post graduation program. He expressed that Aziz Fatimah Medical & Dental College will soon start the training program. He appreciated the high academic discipline standards and beautiful campus of the college. He thanked the organizers and higher management of the college for inviting him as chief guest.

In the closing session of the seminar the guest of honor, worthy Chief Operating Officer Mr. Ijaz Hussain appreciated the organizers and management to conduct such an interesting, informative and knowledgeable seminar. He also paid thanks to the chief guest and faculty for attending this seminar. He once again repeated the vision of worthy Chief Executive Officer and higher management for uplifting the standards of the college at the level of center of excellence comparable to other center of excellence within country and abroad.
The seminar was followed by awareness walk about the leprosy in which faculty members and students participated.
